RIYADH — The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has emphasized the importance of providing children with a balanced breakfast as schools across Saudi Arabia set to reopen on Sunday, Aug. 23, marking the beginning of the new academic year.

The SFDA stressed that a healthy and nutritious breakfast provides children with the energy and essential nutrients needed to support their growth, learning, physical activity, and concentration, particularly with the return to school.

In its guidelines for the start of the school year, the SFDA explained that breakfast supplies children with the energy and nutrients necessary for growth, learning, and physical activity. It also noted that incorporating fruits and vegetables helps diversify their diet while providing essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber that support healthy growth and overall well-being.

The SFDA recommended that breakfast include milk or dairy products, grains, preferably whole grains, a source of protein, fruits or vegetables, and a moderate amount of fat.
