ADEN — Yemeni government forces said Saturday they had repelled a Houthi attack north of Dhubab Airport near the strategic Bab Al-Mandab Strait in southwestern Yemen.

The Giants Brigades said in a statement posted on X that their forces had thwarted the attack and inflicted significant losses on Houthi fighters and military equipment.

The brigades said the fighting coincided with airstrikes by the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen targeting Houthi reinforcements in the area.

The latest confrontation comes as Yemeni government forces continue their offensive against Houthi positions near Bab Al-Mandab, a strategic maritime passage connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.

The area has emerged as a key battleground in the renewed fighting, with government forces seeking to consolidate their positions and prevent Houthi attempts to regain territory.

Clashes across Yemen have intensified since July, marking the most extensive fighting since a period of relative calm following the UN-brokered truce that took effect in April 2022.
