King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH) has launched the Future of Nursing: AI and Innovation hackathon, held on November 1–2 with 21 projects selected from 75 submissions across Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. The hackathon empowers nurses to use AI and digital technologies to develop practical solutions to everyday challenges in patient care and the workplace, enhancing patient safety, quality of care, and workforce sustainability.
Nurses, healthcare practitioners, and technology and AI specialists are developing prototypes with guidance from clinical and technical experts. Participants have access to prototyping labs and 3D printing facilities, with sessions held in person in Riyadh and online for those joining from elsewhere.
Organized in strategic partnership with the Center of Digital Entrepreneurship (CODE), the hackathon will feature presentations of participating projects to judging panels. Entries will be assessed on their potential impact, innovation, feasibility, and scalability. The process aims to provide winning projects with opportunities for incubation and further development, supporting their progression to testing and implementation in healthcare settings.
The hackathon is part of KFSH’s wider efforts to advance innovation in nursing and enable healthcare professionals to develop solutions that address everyday workplace challenges, improving both the patient experience and the quality of healthcare services.
King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre has been ranked first in the Middle East and Africa and 12th globally among the world’s top 250 academic medical centers for 2026. It was also recognized as the most valuable healthcare brand in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East for 2026, according to Brand Finance, and listed by Newsweek among the World’s Best Hospitals, World’s Best Smart Hospitals, and World’s Best Specialized Hospitals for 2026.
