WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump announced Friday the appointment of Katie Zacharia as White House press secretary, replacing Karoline Leavitt, who left the position at the end of August.

“It is my Great Honor to have just appointed, as Press Secretary, Katie Zacharia,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Trump said Zacharia currently serves as senior communications adviser to Truth Social’s parent company, Trump Media & Technology Group, praising her performance in the role.

“Katie currently serves as Senior Communications Advisor to Truth Social (Trump Media & Technology Group), where she has been outstanding!” he said.

The president highlighted Zacharia’s experience working on his election campaigns in key swing states and expressed confidence in her ability to manage relations between the White House, the media and the American public.

Trump said Zacharia would “deliver strong results for our Country as the next White House Press Secretary,” adding that she had the respect of the media and would work effectively with his administration.

He also praised Leavitt for her service during her tenure as White House press secretary.

Zacharia previously served as spokesperson and deputy assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Homeland Security between February and March 2026.

An attorney and graduate of Pepperdine University and its Caruso School of Law, she has also appeared as a political commentator on Fox News and Newsmax.

Leavitt made history in January 2025 when she became the youngest White House press secretary at the age of 27.

Trump announced her departure on August 12, and she officially left the position at the end of that month.
