WASHINGTON — China is now viewed more positively than the US in many countries around the world, according to a new study by the Pew Research Center. It is the first time the organization has recorded such results. Global views of the United States worsened last year as President Donald Trump’s second term began, though most people still had a more positive opinion of the US than China. This year, that is no longer the case. Views of China have improved in recent years while opinions of the US have worsened, to the point where China is now seen more…

WASHINGTON — More than 100 House Democrats voted to block billions of dollars in military aid to Israel in an ultimately unsuccessful effort that highlighted the growing division in their party on the issue, CNN reported. On Wednesday 103 Democrats voted in support of an amendment to block aid that had been proposed by GOP Rep. Thomas Massie, a persistent critic of President Donald Trump who has been skeptical of US support for Israel. One Republican also signed on. But the measure ultimately failed 104-314. As many as 98 Democrats voted against it and 10 voted present, meaning they did…

Vineet Jain, CEO, Egnyte. For over a decade, corporate IT strategy treated the cloud as a borderless utility. Digital transformation meant migrating massive data footprints to the consolidated ecosystems of hyperscalers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure. However, localised network severances, vulnerabilities in international subsea cable corridors, and physical threats to infrastructure clusters have exposed a critical flaw in this strategy.   In an increasingly fragmented global landscape, infrastructure disruption doesn’t just cause standard downtime; it tests the legal boundaries of data custody. When a physical crisis forces unexpected data rerouting across borders,…

ATLANTA — Argentina risked the prospect of disciplinary action after players held up a political banner declaring “Las Malvinas Son Argentinas” (“The Falklands are Argentinian”) after their 2-1 World Cup semifinal victory over England, in apparent contravention of FIFA rules. FIFA’s Stadium Code of Conduct bans “banners, flags, flyers, apparel and other paraphernalia that are of a political, offensive, and/or discriminatory nature” inside stadiums. The defending world champions produced a dramatic late comeback in Atlanta, scoring twice to defeat Thomas Tuchel’s side 2-1 and book a showdown with Spain in Sunday’s final. After the final whistle, Argentina players celebrated while…

SRINAGAR — A political storm is brewing in Indian-administered Kashmir after authorities ordered a sweeping crackdown on controversial books that allegedly glorified separatist leaders. All educational institutions in the state have been to review books for “inappropriate and objectionable” content, in a move that has sparked a debate over who gets to shape the region’s history in classrooms. The order, issued last week, directs schools, colleges, universities and coaching centres to screen all published material on their premises, including research papers and academic theses, for content that could violate “religious sentiments, laws, educational values and established norms”. They must also report…

Jeetu Kataria. Every few months, someone tells me that AI will make investment managers obsolete. My work sits at the intersection of quantitative strategy, technology, and capital markets, so people often expect me to agree. What I believe is that AI will redefine investing so deeply that the job will look completely different within a decade, and the managers who understand this early will hold a real advantage over those who resist it.  The strengths of AI in investing are practical, and anyone dismissing them has stopped paying attention. A well-built system can process information at a scale no human team can…
