RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced the temporary suspension of operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday after a new attack struck the airport, leaving several people injured.

In a statement, GACA said the attack occurred Saturday afternoon, October 10, amid continued attacks targeting civil aviation facilities in the Kingdom.

The authority confirmed that several people had been injured, adding that officials were still working to determine the total number of casualties.

GACA said airport operations had been temporarily suspended pending a comprehensive assessment of the damage and verification of the safety of airport facilities in coordination with the relevant authorities.

Further updates will be announced as more information becomes available, the authority added.

Earlier Saturday, King Khalid International Airport issued a travel advisory urging passengers to contact their airlines directly and confirm their flight status before heading to the airport.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Saudi citizens whose flights had been disrupted or who were unable to reach their destinations because of suspended or delayed services to Riyadh to contact Saudi diplomatic missions in the countries where they are currently staying.

The ministry said its embassies and consulates would provide affected citizens with the necessary assistance and guidance.

Saturday’s attack came just two days after three Saudi citizens were killed and several others injured in two attacks on King Khalid International Airport on Thursday.
