RIYADH — Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council held an emergency meeting in Riyadh on Saturday to discuss the serious consequences of Iran operating a direct flight to Sanaa International Airport, which is under Houthi control, calling it a blatant violation of Yemen’s sovereignty and international law.

The council said the flight constituted a direct challenge to relevant international law and UN Security Council resolutions.

During the meeting, members received briefings on the dangerous escalation that further demonstrated the Houthis’ complete alignment with Iran’s regional agenda and their prioritization of Tehran’s interests over those of the Yemeni people.

The council said the latest development was part of a longstanding pattern of Houthi actions aimed at undermining peace efforts, rejecting regional and international initiatives to end the conflict, and prolonging instability in Yemen.

It warned that the incident posed not only a threat to Yemen but also a direct risk to regional and international security.

The Presidential Leadership Council reaffirmed that the Yemeni state would assume its full constitutional and legal responsibilities to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and its exclusive authority over the management of its airspace and border crossings, while confronting any attempts to undermine those rights.

The council also called on the United Nations, the UN Security Council, and regional and international partners to move beyond condemnation and take concrete deterrent measures to halt the Iranian violations.

It urged tighter oversight of channels used to support, arm, and finance the Houthi militia and called for preventing the use of Yemeni territory and airspace to advance cross-border destabilizing activities.
