AMMAN— Foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkiye emphasized the necessity of continuing to support diplomatic solutions to address the challenges facing the region.

During their fifth meeting held in Amman on Wednesday, the ministers discussed efforts to de-escalate tensions and address current security challenges. The meeting was attended by Prince Faisal bin Farhan (Saudi Arabia); Muhammad Ishaq Dar (Pakistan); Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty (Egypt); and Hakan Fidan (Turkiye).

The foreign ministers commended Saudi Arabia’s initiative to establish a multinational Maritime Defense Alliance to enhance maritime security, protect international sea lanes, and counter threats targeting international navigation and trade.

The ministers specially highlighted the Pakistani-Qatari mediation efforts to defuse the tension in the region, while stressing the need to strengthen all measures that respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, in order to preserve the region’s security and stability.

During their meeting, the ministers discussed the latest regional developments and the importance of continuing efforts, intensifying joint coordination, and unifying positions on current regional issues.

They also stressed the importance of concerted efforts to ensure the safety of waterways in the Straits of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb, guaranteeing freedom of navigation and contributing to the stability of supply chains and energy markets.
