BEIRUT — Simon Karam will head Lebanon’s delegation in bilateral negotiations with Israel, the Lebanese presidency announced Monday.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, the presidency said the Lebanese delegation will be led by Karam, a former ambassador to the United States.

The presidency said the talks aim to halt hostilities, end the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanese areas, and deploy the Lebanese army along the internationally recognized southern border.

“No one else will participate on Lebanon’s behalf or take its place in this mission,” the presidency said, underscoring that the delegation has sole authority to represent Lebanon in the negotiations.
