Seasonal fodder cultivation forms a vital component of Najran’s agricultural landscape, underpinning food security and reinforcing local production across both the farming and livestock sectors.

The region dedicates roughly 990 hectares to fodder crops, generating an annual yield of approximately 16,000 tons. Alfalfa and sorghum lead production; alfalfa serves as a staple feed prized for its high nutritional value, while sorghum’s drought tolerance, low water consumption, and fiber content have driven strong local demand.

Fodder farming practices across the region continue to transition toward greater sustainability. Local growers are increasingly implementing water-saving technologies, precise irrigation management, and optimized planting schedules tailored to arid conditions.

These modernization efforts reflect a broader commitment to agricultural sustainability, balancing robust crop yields with the conservation of vital water resources to support long-term environmental and livestock needs.
