RIYADH — More than 26.34 million passengers used public buses across Saudi Arabia’s cities and governorates during the second quarter of 2026, an increase of 23.2 percent compared with the same period last year, according to the Transport General Authority (TGA).
The TGA said the 23.2 percent growth reflects increasing demand for bus transportation within cities, supported by technical equipment that meets the highest operational standards.
According to the TGA’s quarterly bulletin, Riyadh recorded the highest number of passengers at 20.07 million, followed by Makkah with 2.97 million and Jeddah with 1.19 million.
The Dammam metropolitan area and Qatif Governorate recorded 835,000 passengers, while Madinah
recorded around 490,000.
Qassim recorded 273,000 passengers, followed by Taif with 194,000, Al-Ahsa with 135,000, Jazan with 120,000 and Tabuk with 56,000.
The authority said the results also reflect its continued efforts, in cooperation with public- and private-sector partners, to develop bus transportation services, improve operational efficiency and expand coverage to more neighborhoods and key locations across cities.
