RIYADH — The General Authority of Media Regulation has summoned a violator for insulting one of the Kingdom’s sisterly countries in an audio chat room on a social media platform.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the authority said that on June 6, 2026, the relevant department detected content in an audio chat room that included offensive remarks directed at a sisterly state.

It also said such conduct constitutes a violation of the Anti-Cybercrime Law, which prohibits content that insults sisterly or friendly countries, their leaders, or their national symbols, or otherwise undermines public order.

The authority added that regulatory procedures against the violator have been completed and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution, as it constitutes an information crime under Article 6 of the Anti-Cybercrime Law.

It also stressed that it remains committed to monitoring content that violates media regulations and standards and will not hesitate to take legal action against offenders as part of its role in overseeing media content.

Information Minister Salman Al-Dosari released a statement saying, “Insulting the leaderships of brotherly and friendly countries is completely unacceptable, and it is a red line, and it is a transgression against our values, customs, culture, and systems, and there will be no leniency in it.”
