RIYADH — Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman has directed the resumption of Lebanese exports to Saudi Arabia following a request from Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
The decision comes in light of the positive steps taken by the Lebanese government to rebuild state institutions and progress achieved by specialized teams over the past year and commitments provided by Beirut, the Saudi statement read.
Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan conveyed the directive during a telephone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Wednesday.
During the call, Prince Faisal reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s support for Lebanon’s stability, sovereignty and the well-being of its people. He expressed confidence that Lebanese authorities would continue taking the necessary measures to prevent the country from being used as a platform to harm neighboring states.
Lebanon welcomes decision
President Joseph Aoun expressed his appreciation to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, describing the move as a reflection of the deep ties between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon and the Kingdom’s continued support for Lebanon during its recovery efforts.
He said the decision would provide a tangible boost to Lebanon’s economy and support a broad segment of Lebanese producers and exporters.
Aoun added that the Lebanese people viewed the move as an important step toward strengthening the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
Salam: Support for economic recovery
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said the lifting of restrictions on Lebanese exports reflects the strong historical ties between the two nations and demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s confidence in Lebanon.
He described the decision as an important measure that would support the Lebanese economy and create new opportunities for Lebanese producers and exporters, helping promote growth and stability.
Salam also expressed his government’s desire to continue working closely with Saudi Arabia to deepen cooperation and partnership across various sectors for the benefit of both countries.
