Muslim World League (MWL) Secretary-General and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa participated as a keynote speaker at the opening of the conference “Future of Human Civilization in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” hosted by the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes in Morocco.

The conference, attended by more than 2,000 participants, brought together prominent global figures, including the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, as well as academics and thinkers from 75 countries and the university’s partners.

In his remarks, Al-Issa noted the importance of the conference theme, which addresses a key issue concerning human civilization and its evolving knowledge systems.

He said this trajectory has developed over recent centuries, beginning with the knowledge revolution of the 16th and 17th centuries, a shift that moved humanity beyond traditional material thinking toward an expanded experimental scientific method, whose principles were established by Muslim scholars in the 10th and 11th centuries.

He also indicated that the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution has transformed machines from mere digital repositories of knowledge into tools capable of analysis and idea generation.

Al-Issa emphasized the need for the AI revolution to be guided by a unified ethical framework grounded in shared human values.

He outlined a comprehensive vision that includes defining agreed-upon principles before developing AI systems, particularly in matters related to religion, race, and culture, to prevent their misuse to promote hate, racism, or narratives of civilizational conflict.

Additionally, he called for requiring relevant companies to adhere to transparency and accountability standards, setting strict limits in sensitive and high-risk areas and in major decision-making, with final decisions remaining in human hands.
