The National Center for Waste Management (MWAN) has enabled the launch of the model livestock city project in Makkah, marking the first model slaughterhouse utilizing advanced rendering technology to process carcass and organic waste during the 1447 AH Hajj season.

Aiming for a 100% diversion rate from landfills, the project utilizes an integrated operational grid, equipped with specialized units for blood, fat, and offal processing, bone grinding, and automated odor control systems, to process up to 2,500 tons of solid and liquid waste annually.

Developed via a memorandum of cooperation with Oclean company to engage private sector innovation, the facility transforms waste streams, which comprise roughly 45% of slaughtered animal mass, into valuable, market-ready commodities, including organic liquid fertilizers, protein powders, and animal feed components, establishing a scalable circular economy blueprint for future nationwide expansion.
