The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) launched today in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, a program titled “Analyzing Extremist and Hate Speech in Digital Media – Tools and Smart Countering Technologies,” as part of its strategic media initiative “Peace Journalists Initiative.”
The program includes 30 trainees from among media professionals and individuals interested in media affairs. Its launch is part of IMCTC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the role of media in countering extremist and hate speech and to build media awareness capable of addressing rapidly evolving intellectual challenges in the digital environment. This supports social stability and fosters a culture of peace.
The training program aims to develop the capabilities of media professionals in countering extremist discourse in digital spaces. It enhances their understanding of the theoretical foundations of hate speech, analyzes the factors contributing to its spread, and enables them to address extremist content professionally in accordance with best media practices.
The program also highlights the vital role of journalists in the modern era as “digital gatekeepers.” It emphasizes the importance of adhering to professional and ethical standards in fact-checking and combating misinformation. This commitment enhances the credibility of media messaging and helps limit the spread of rumors.
This initiative is part of a broader series of media training programs implemented by IMCTC under its “Peace Journalists Initiative.” It underscores the coalition’s continued commitment to empowering media professionals, strengthening media integration among member states, and building sustainable capacities that contribute to preventing extremism and countering terrorist rhetoric through innovative and effective approaches.
