The United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution submitted by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, reaffirming that Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, as well as in the Golan Heights, are illegal and constitute a major obstacle to achieving a two-state solution.
The resolution called for an immediate halt to all settlement activities and adherence to international law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention. It also emphasized the need to protect Palestinian civilians and prevent any demographic changes in the occupied territories.
The resolution further condemned land confiscation, house demolitions, forced displacement, and settler-related violence.
The council urged states to take measures to ensure they do not support settlement activities, including through economic or investment relations. It stressed the importance of legal accountability and promoting respect for human rights.
