Shenzhen — Huawei and HP Inc. have signed a multiyear global patent cross-licensing agreement covering intellectual property held by both companies.
The agreement includes a licence allowing HP to use certain Huawei Wi-Fi patents. Financial terms and further details concerning the technologies covered were not disclosed.
The deal marks another step in the companies’ collaboration on intellectual property licensing. It also reflects the increasing commercial recognition of Huawei’s research and innovation across information and communications technology, particularly in technologies governed by international standards.
Access to Huawei’s Wi-Fi intellectual property will support HP’s global portfolio of computers and peripheral equipment. The agreement also illustrates a broader shift in the technology sector, with intellectual property developed by Chinese companies becoming increasingly relevant to products manufactured and marketed by major US technology businesses.

Patent cross-licensing agreements allow participating companies to use specified intellectual property from each other’s portfolios. Such arrangements can support product development, reduce the risk of patent disputes and facilitate the wider adoption of standardised technologies across global markets.
The agreement reinforces Huawei’s strategy of making its patented technologies available to the wider industry through licensing, while recognising HP’s global position in personal computing and peripheral equipment.
