RIYADH — The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) revealed that it conducted periodic technical inspections on more than 6.5 million vehicles during 2025, an increase of approximately 500,000 vehicles compared to 2024. SASO stated receiving 37,690 reports concerning periodic technical inspection stations during the last year.

The organization reported that 2025 witnessed significant expansion in the periodic vehicle inspection network. New stations were inaugurated in Al-Nabhania, Rafha, Sarat Abidah, Al-Zulfi, Bish, Duba, Shaqra, Al-Aflaj, Samtah, Al-Muzahamiya, Al-Khobar, Al-Muthnib, Afeef, and Madinah, in addition to the opening of two express lanes in Dammam and Riyadh.

The SASO noted that this expansion contributed to increasing population coverage of periodic vehicle inspection services within an 80-kilometer radius to 85 percent of the Kingdom’s population. It noted that the current operational model relies on partnerships with six private sector entities to provide these services.

The report stated that SASO conducted 644 field inspection tours of inspection centers and carried out six specialized technical investigations to verify irregularities that could affect vehicle safety. It also provided the relevant authorities with specialized technical reports.

To ensure comprehensive oversight, the organization confirmed that it is implementing a smart oversight model through a technical system that connects all inspection centers, tracks the vehicle’s journey within the inspection station, and analyzes performance and compliance indicators in real time.
