NAJRAN — More than 4,400 greenhouses in Najran produce over 37,000 tons of tomatoes and cucumbers, helping strengthen agricultural sustainability, enhance food security, and support the local economy.

In addition to tomatoes and cucumbers, the greenhouses produce a variety of other crops, including bell peppers, zucchini, eggplant, okra, strawberries, figs, and leafy vegetables, which receive careful attention from farmers through adherence to sound agricultural practices in irrigation, fertilization, and regular crop monitoring.

By providing an optimal growing environment that enhances agricultural productivity, improves crop quality, conserves water, and ensures year-round agricultural production, greenhouses have become one of the region’s leading agricultural technologies and a key pillar in preserving natural resources.

Greenhouses have also created a suitable environment for plant growth by allowing control over temperature, humidity, ventilation, and lighting. They also utilize modern irrigation systems that improve water-use efficiency, reduce waste, protect plants from dust and wind, and minimize their exposure to agricultural pests.

Najran Region’s environmental and agricultural advantages have enabled farmers to develop agricultural production, contributing to agricultural sustainability, strengthening food security, and supporting the local economy.

The Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture’s Najran branch, Eng. Mureeh bin Sharea Al-Shahrani, said that greenhouses are among the most important modern solutions for advancing the agricultural sector, as they provide an ideal production environment.

He added that the ministry’s regional branch continues to encourage farmers to expand the use of protected agriculture technologies by providing technical guidance and promoting best agricultural practices.
