OCR Studio, a developer of AI-powered scanning solutions, will unveil a multipurpose web-native ID and payment data scanner built specifically for banks and fintech companies operating in the Middle East.

Running directly in any popular browser, the solution enables KYC with identity documents used throughout the region and facilitates payments by capturing data from barcodes, phone numbers, and bank cards. The web-native scanner will be presented at Seamless Fintech ME 2026, taking place from September 22 to 24 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The launch comes as banking services across the Middle East increasingly move into online channels. The region’s digital banking platform market was valued at USD 2.65 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 9.72 billion by 2033, with online banking representing the largest share. As digital customer journeys expand, financial institutions need browser-based services that offer the same speed, convenience, and functionality as their mobile applications.

For in-browser KYC and customer onboarding, OCR Studio’s web-native scanner recognizes passports, national ID cards, residence permits, driver’s licenses, visas, and other identity documents used across the Middle East. Seamless Fintech ME 2026 visitors will be able to test the technology at the OCR Studio booth using synthetic samples of identity documents.

The solution supports thousands of document templates from over 250 countries and territories, allowing regional banks to serve both local customers and the Middle East’s highly international population through the same web interface. The technology extracts data written in Arabic, Latin, Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Armenian, Georgian, and many other complex scripts.

The web-native scanner also enables instant payment data capture. Customers can initiate payments directly through the bank’s web platform simply by pointing their device camera at a barcode, bank card, printed or handwritten phone number. The technology supports different bank card designs and remains reliable under real-world capture conditions, including glare, blur, shadows, perspective distortion, and partially cropped barcodes. This helps banks and fintech companies shorten payment journeys, reduce input errors, and add camera-based payment functionality directly to their websites.

OCR Studio’s scanner runs locally inside the browser using WebAssembly. Identity document images and card numbers are not sent to external processing services. This eliminates unnecessary cross-border data transfers and gives financial institutions greater control over sensitive customer information. At the same time, the web-native scanner enhances compliance with the data protection laws of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain, as well as other regional regulatory frameworks.
