Optro overhauls partner programme with tiered, AI-driven model, says Scott Whitlock

Global VP Scott Whitlock explains why capacity and competency now matter more than closed deals

Optro has rolled out Partner Connect, a modular, tiered channel programme built to replace the transaction-led framework that carried the company through its early growth phase. Scott Whitlock, Global VP of Alliances and Channels at Optro, explains why the shift matters now: with resale, distribution, and marketplace motions layering on top of advisory relationships across every region, a model that rewarded closed deals alone could no longer capture the full picture of partner investment.

Partner Connect introduces distinct tracks for Advisory Partners and Solution Providers, evaluated against four pillars: financial impact, capacity, competency, and governance. Whitlock also outlines the AI agents being woven into the programme, the mandate of the newly established Partner Center of Excellence, and the scope for GCC-based partners to build certified, monetisable expertise across the GRC Intelligence Platform over the next 12 to 18 months.

    Interview Excerpts

What gap in the legacy partner framework prompted the shift to a modular, tiered structure under Optro Partner Connect?
Our old model was actually right for its stage. We had proven global demand, mostly through advisory relationships, and rewarding closed transactions was the fastest way to capture wins while we found where the real traction was. It helped get us to where more than half the Fortune 500 trust Optro today. But now we’re poised for the next phase of our growth.

“We’re building resale, distribution, and marketplace motions on top of advisory now, across every region, and partners are investing real capacity and certified expertise to serve customers well.”

A transaction-only lens cannot see any of that. Optro Partner Connect replaces that with a modular design built around distinct tracks – Advisory Partners and Solution Providers at launch – sitting on a transparent tier structure. Benefits are fixed by tier, not negotiated deal by deal, so a partner always knows exactly what they’ve unlocked and what the next stage looks like. That predictability is the point, as it turns partnering with us from a series of one-off wins into a plan a partner’s leadership can actually invest in.

How does moving away from transaction-only metrics towards capacity and competency change the way partners are evaluated and rewarded?
It changes the conversation from “what did you sell us last quarter” to “what are you building?” We picked the four pillars of financial impact, capacity, competency, and governance because together they predict whether a partner can deliver a great outcome for a shared customer, not just close a deal. The economics still matter, but capacity and competency tell us whether a partner can actually execute once the deal is signed, and governance tells us whether we are genuinely aligned on the account. Capacity means dedicated delivery resources sized to the tier. Competency means role-based certifications and in-time solution specialisations are actually completed, not just claimed. Partners who invest in those four pillars are also just more competitive and a better fit for customers, so that investment pays off in their own business. On top of that, our benefits scale with these investments. This holistic evaluation gives partners a clear blueprint to build highly profitable services practices around the platform. It’s a more demanding bar, but a fairer and more durable one.

Can you elaborate on the AI layer being woven into the partner experience and when partners can expect to see it in the field?
The real driver here is scale. As we push into resale, distribution, and marketplaces across every region, the manual, one-to-one way we have supported partners so far will not hold up, and partners feel that friction as slower approvals and inconsistent guidance. AI is how we keep the program personal while it grows. We are building three categories of agents in partnership with our PRM and co-sell platforms. Efficiency agents take on repeatable admin: deal-registration triage, tier and requirement checks, routing approvals. Intelligence agents surface signals sooner, things like real-time co-sell guidance to our field and partner teams. In the future, ‘experience’ agents will personalise onboarding, guiding a partner through their journey with far less manual back-and-forth. This is very much a roadmap we’re building toward, not a switch we’ve flipped. It’s woven throughout the program design from day one, and partners will see it phase in as we scale the program.

How will the Partner Center of Excellence support partners in the Middle East, and what role does the region play in your global channel strategy?
The Partner Center of Excellence is a dedicated team focused solely on partner success. To be clear, this is not just a regional function, but the accountability layer for the entire program, globally. It guides every partner, wherever they are, through onboarding and what we call “everboarding”, which is the ongoing support that gets a partner to its first win faster and keeps them on a clear path to the next tier.

“The Middle East sits within our EMEA region, one of the three regions, alongside the Americas and APJ, where tier status is recognised consistently at the parent level for our Global Elite partners.”

It means a global advisory firm’s standing carries across its regional practices rather than resetting market by market, which is exactly the kind of predictability firms operating across the GCC have been asking for as they scale their GRC advisory and implementation practices with us.

Where do you see the biggest opportunity for partners to build profitable services practices around the GRC Intelligence Platform over the next 12 to 18 months?
The platform spans audit, risk, compliance, and information security, and partners can build certified, earned expertise in any or all of those solution areas rather than staying generalists. We’ve structured it as a real ladder. When individuals get certified on a solution, their firm becomes a Certified Specialist, and once they’ve delivered real customer implementations at quality, they earn Advanced Specialist status. That’s a credential built on proven delivery, not a badge handed out for getting certified. The bigger opportunity is the full lifecycle. Eligible partners aren’t limited to implementation. There’s room to build a high-value practice from advisory through managed services. Combine that with qualified partners’ ability to build their own solutions, integrations, and accelerators on the platform, and you have a genuine path to turn deep GRC expertise into owned, monetisable IP over the next year to eighteen months.
