RIYADH — Iraq has reaffirmed its commitment not to allow its territory or airspace to be used as a launch point for any attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, or other countries in the region.

The commitment came during a meeting on Sunday in Saudi Arabia between Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, attended by senior officials from both countries.

The ministers reviewed the close ties between Saudi Arabia and Iraq and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation across various fields. They also exchanged views on regional developments and issues of mutual concern.

Both sides stressed the importance of respecting national sovereignty, maintaining good neighborly relations, refraining from interference in the internal affairs of states, and rejecting the use of any country’s territory to threaten the security and stability of others.

Iraq renewed its pledge not to permit its land or airspace to be used as a launch point for attacks against Saudi Arabia, GCC member states, or other countries in the region.

The two sides also underlined the importance of supporting Iraq’s security and stability, strengthening its national institutions, and continuing bilateral coordination and cooperation in a way that serves their shared interests and contributes to regional peace and stability.
