RIYADH — Saudi Arabia condemned Thursday’s bomb attack targeting a café in central Damascus that killed at least 10 people and injured 21 others.

In a statement on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the attack, which targeted a café in the Al-Hijaz district of the Syrian capital.

“The Kingdom reaffirms its solidarity with the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic against all forms of violence, extremism, and terrorism,” the ministry said, extending its condolences to the families of the victims and to the Syrian government and people, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

According to Syria’s Health Ministry, the death toll from the attack rose to 10, with 21 others injured. Syrian state media said the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device planted inside the café near the Palace of Justice in the Al-Hijaz area.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing, and Syrian authorities have launched an investigation.

The attack comes as Syria’s new authorities continue efforts to strengthen security and restore stability following the fall of Bashar Assad’s regime in December 2024. Officials have accused remnants of the former regime and affiliated cells of attempting to undermine the country’s transitional period, saying security forces have foiled several plots and arrested suspected members of those networks in recent months.
