GENEVA — The Saudi Consulate General in Geneva advised on Thursday Saudi citizens residing in or visiting Switzerland to exercise caution, avoid areas where demonstrations and public gatherings may take place, and comply with the instructions issued by the Swiss authorities during the G7 Summit. The 52nd G7 Summit will be held from June 15 to 17 in the French spa resort of Évian-les-Bains on Lake Geneva, near the Swiss border.
In a statement posted on its X account, the Consulate said: “The Consulate General in Geneva wishes to inform all citizens residing in or visiting the country that the Swiss authorities are implementing stringent security measures in the cantons of Geneva and Vaud, as well as at border crossings with France, from June 11 to 19, in conjunction with the G7 Summit. These measures will result in road closures and restrictions affecting movement and travel.”
The Consulate urged all citizens to exercise caution, avoid areas of demonstrations and gatherings, and adhere to the instructions issued by the Swiss authorities. The Consulate also provided emergency contact information, noting: “The Consulate wishes everyone safety and well-being. In case of emergency, citizens may contact the Saudi Citizens Affairs hotline at +41 798 701 543 or the unified number at +966 9200 11114.”
The Swiss government announced that it has reached an agreement with France on a joint security cooperation plan to ensure the safety of the G7 Summit, which will bring together world leaders. The plan will place particular emphasis on securing the Lake Geneva region and its airspace.
Leaders of the world’s largest economies, including US President Donald Trump, along with senior delegations, are scheduled to convene in Évian-les-Bains, the French town situated on the opposite shore of Lake Geneva.
The Swiss military announced that approximately 4,000 troops will be deployed to reinforce security operations, supported by airspace surveillance units. A range of restrictions will be implemented throughout the summit period, alongside specialized systems designed to counter drone threats and provide protection against nuclear, biological, and chemical risks.
