RIYADH — The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 6.2 kilograms of hashish through the Al-Wadiah border crossing after the narcotics were discovered hidden inside a vehicle entering the Kingdom.

ZATCA spokesman Hamoud Al-Harbi said the drugs were detected during inspection procedures and were concealed inside metal cans containing food products.

Following the seizure, ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control to identify and arrest the intended recipient inside Saudi Arabia, Al-Harbi said.

He added that the recipient was subsequently apprehended.

Al-Harbi stressed that ZATCA remains committed to strengthening customs controls on the Kingdom’s imports and exports and combating smuggling attempts as part of its strategy to enhance community safety and security.

He called on the public to support anti-smuggling efforts by reporting violations through ZATCA’s security hotline (1910), international number (009661910), or email, noting that all reports are handled confidentially and may qualify for a financial reward if the information proves accurate.
