ISLAMABAD — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Saturday amid renewed efforts to revive stalled negotiations between the United States and Iran.
According to a statement from the prime minister’s office, the meeting focused on the regional situation and ongoing diplomatic developments.
The talks were also attended by Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Earlier in the day, Araghchi also held a separate meeting with Munir, who recently visited Tehran.
The Iranian minister arrived in Pakistan late Friday in what Pakistani officials described as part of efforts that could pave the way for a second round of negotiations aimed at ending the conflict between Washington and Tehran.
Araghchi is also expected to travel to Muscat and Moscow as part of his diplomatic tour.
The first round of talks was held in Islamabad two weeks ago but ended without a breakthrough.
Those negotiations followed a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan on April 8, which was later extended by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, the White House said U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner would also travel to Pakistan on Saturday.
Iran has said it will not hold direct talks with the United States, and that its positions would instead be communicated through Pakistan.
Reported sticking points in the negotiations include the status of the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. restrictions on Iranian ports, and Tehran’s enriched uranium program.
